Roy Watson, Jr. is a seasoned executive with over 32 years of experience in the healthcare industry. He currently serves as the Vice President of Group and State Segment at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, where he oversees the financial performance, retention, and sales for all employer groups in all 100 counties of North Carolina, as well as the State Health Plan for Retirees and Teachers.
In this role, Roy provides strategic leadership and direction to the enterprise, emphasizing the importance of developing and maintaining key relationships in the market and with the State Health Plan. He works in close collaboration with business partners to develop and initiate strategies that enhance the Blue Cross NC market offer, and is responsible for managing the group market distribution strategy, which includes online direct sales, contracting, programs, and compensation for external brokers and consultants.
Roy’s expertise and insights are highly valued by employers and brokers, who rely on him to inform critical business decisions related to healthcare. He has successfully led multiple sales segments for Blue Cross NC, including Small Group, Individual Under 65, Medicare, The Federal Employees Program, and Large/National Accounts.
Roy earned his B.S. in Health Care Management from the University of Alabama. He is an active member of his community and currently serves on the board of the United Way of North Carolina and the Blue Cross Consortium Health Plan Board. He is also the former chair of the Morrisville Chamber of Commerce Board.
In his free time, Roy enjoys spending time with his family, playing games, and attending movies. He is an avid fan of football, basketball, and baseball.
